My Neighbor Totoro was originally released as a Double-Feature in Japan with Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies. Two Theories of WHY are 1. They Thought My Neighbor Totoro wouldn't be sucsessful, and 2. They thought Grave of the Fireflies would be too depressing.
Isao Takahata's Pom Poko was about a group of Racoons who are angry at the Humans for destroying Forests. So They try to Scare the Humans Away. (Weird, I Know.)

Studio Ghibli was started during the making of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Miyazaki's second Movie. (The Castle of Caligoristo was his 1st, Castle in the Sky was his 3rd.)
